Description

The Mercure Spiel Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a true symbol of the region's sports capital. This multi-functional stadium, which proudly bears the name of the famous clothing manufacturer Esprit, is the home arena of the prestigious football club Fortuna.

Construction of the Mercure Spire Arena began in 2002 on the site of the old Rheinstadion. and was completed in 2004. The first match at the stadium took place on September 10, 2004, when Fortuna defeated the Berlin "Union" with a score of 2:0. The construction cost was approximately 218 million euros, which demonstrates the large-scale and high-quality approach to the creation of this magnificent sports ground.

The Mercure Spire Arena originally had a capacity of 51,500 spectators, but in the summer of 2010 some of the seating was replaced with standing, thus increasing the capacity for football matches to 54,600 seats, including approximately 10,000 standing areas. For international matches the stadium can accommodate up to 51,500 spectators, and for concerts its capacity increases to an impressive 66,500 people. It is worth noting that the Mercure Spire Arena has a removable roof over the playing field and a canopy over the stands, which creates comfortable conditions for spectators in any weather. In addition, a special field heating system allows events and activities to be held even in the cold winter months.

This unique venue can be said to have become a respected venue for sporting and cultural events at the international level. Although the Mercure Spire Arena did not host matches at the 2006 World Cup, it hosted a number of exclusive international matches involving national teams. The German national team organized impressive matches with the national teams of Argentina, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium and Spain. The Portuguese national team also celebrated this stadium with two friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Greece.

The Merkur Spire Arena offers unforgettable emotions and impressions, whether at sports competitions or at concerts of world stars. This is a place where passion and energy truly come to life, enveloping every viewer.
