Red Bull Arena

Description

"Red Bull Arena" is a famous central stadium in Leipzig, which is the home arena of soccer club RB Leipzig and hosts some matches of the German national soccer team.

The stadium was built in 1956 and was designed to hold up to 100,000 spectators. Before the reconstruction, it was considered the largest stadium in Germany and was called the Central Stadium. The construction of the new arena took place from December 2000 to March 2004. The maximum capacity at soccer matches is about 43 thousand spectators. In 2010, the famous Austrian company Red Bull GmbH leased the stadium for 10 years and renamed it "Red Bull Arena".

It was at this stadium that 5 matches of the 2006 FIFA World Cup took place, including four group matches and one match of the 1/8 finals. Thus, the Red Bull Arena was the only stadium in East Germany to host World Cup matches. From 2005 to 2007, the Central Stadium also hosted the German League Cup final.

In addition to soccer matches, the arena is often used as a concert venue. World famous performers such as Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, Herbert Gronemeyer, Genesis, Bon Jovi, Depeche Mode, AC/DC, Mario Barth, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band as well as Helen Fischer have performed at the arena.
